Viewing and Printing Adobe Acrobat PDF and Postscript PS Files

Adobe Acrobat PDF files (extension .pdf)

To preview and to process PDF - Portable Document Files, your computer needs recent versions of the Adobe Acrobat Reader which is available from http://www.adobe.com . Adobe supports almost all platforms including most UNIX operating systems (including Linux, Sun Solaris, HP UX) and MS Windows. To download Adobe Acrobat reader for a specific operating system click on http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html .

Compressed PostScript files (extension .ps.gz)

Postscript files are often very large and therefore they were compressed by using the standard UNIX compression utility gzip. Clicking on "Compressed Postscript" button a compressed postscript file will be downloaded to your machine.

UNIX. Most WWW browsers under Unix OS's (e.g. Netscape) have implemented automatic piping procedure so you will not be prompted and the browser will automatically gunzip file.ps.gz and subsequently will call the built-in postscript viewer like e.g. ghostscript. Open your favorite browser and the following capabilities (Netscape4.7: Edit->Preferences->Navigator->Applications)

MS Windows 9x, Me, NT. In MS Windows environment you must save the compressed postscript file file.ps.gz to a hard drive. Then open the file file.ps.gz in the WinZip archiver and extract file.ps from the archive. Finally, open the file.ps by gsview.exe MS Win program from the GNU ghostscript package Ghostview .
